SBL INDIA SEASON

Super Boxing League (SBL) hosted the India Season in League Format. The season has demonstrated a strong proof of concept through its successfully completed league.

The league was televised on Sony ESPN and attained a Cumulative TV Reach of over 27 million and Net Sponsorship Value (NSV) USD 14.5 million.

SBL India Season exhibited strong performance across a multitude of social media and broadcasting KPIs including viewership, social media engagement and impressions. Franchises in SBL India were acquired by large multi-national corporations such as Hero Cycles, Jaura Group, OPM and more. Franchisees also included co-ownership stakes by leading Bollywood celebrities such as; Sunil Shetty, Sunny Leone, Sohail Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Riteish Deshmukh and more.

SBL’s unique point scoring system affirmed strong fan engagement creating an exhilarating atmosphere and maximizing fan engagement.

League concept and unique point scoring system
  • The Format: 8 franchises, 8 celebrity faces and local talent with local fan base
  • The Teams: 6 boxers across 6 weight categories (5 male, 1 female) and 6 back-ups. 6 bouts (4 rounds of 3 minutes each for men and 3 rounds of 2 minutes each for women)
  • Points scoring system: exciting and unique point scoring system deciding the outcome of each fight;

DRAW = +1 TO EACH

Unanimous Draw

When all three judges score the contest a draw

Majority Draw

When two judges score the contest a draw

Split Draw

When all three judges score differently

REFEREE DECISION = + 3 TO THE WINNER

When referee gets the last word and scores the contestant(s)

Unanimous Decision

When all the three judges score win for a contestant

Split Decision

When two judges score a contestant and third judge scores the other contestant

TECHNICAL KNOCK – OUT = +4 TO THE WINNER

When referee stops the contest and when an injury as a result of a legal maneuver is severe enough to terminate a bout

KNOCK OUT = + 6 TO THE WINNER

When contestant being rendered unconscious due strikes or kicks also known as a ‘lights out knockout’.
